Swim lessons at Fermata Club are based on the Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. There is a maximum of six students per class and classes are held Monday – Friday. Attendance for all classes in the session is expected. Lessons are contingent upon the weather and pool temperature. If a class is cancelled due to weather, the instructor will contact the participants and reschedule. The schedule is subject to change. The Fermata Club has the option of rescheduling lessons or changing the placement of participants in any lesson at any time.
Non Fermata Club members enrolled in swim lessons are not permitted to use the pool before or after their class; only during their lessons.

Parent – Child (PC) (1 week) 6mo – 3yr • 30min Helps young children (6 months – 3 years) become comfortable in and around water. This class is not designed to teach children to survive in water on their own or to become good swimmers. It provides information and techniques to parents to help orient children to water. No prerequisites for this class.
Level 1 (1 week) 3 – 5 yr • 30min This elementary class educates children (3 – 5 years) on the fundamentals of aquatic movement. Floating with assistance and basic water safety are taught at this stage. No prerequisites for this class.
Level 2 (2 weeks) 45min Promotes basic locomotion skills by developing the student’s kicking and arm movement. Students learn to float unassisted and to recover to a standing position. Prerequisites for this class – Completion of Level 1 or must be able to fully submerge the face and move through the water with support.
Level 3 (2 weeks) 45min Students learn how to swim back crawl and elementary backstroke. They also learn how to tread water, as well as, the fundamentals of diving. Prerequisites for this class – Completion of Level 2 or must exhibit the ability to float unassisted, become fully submerged, and combine a kick and arm movement on his/her front and back sides.
Level 4 (2 weeks) 45min Students learn how to dive from a standing position, improve their crawls and elementary backstroke, and to swim greater distances. Breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke are introduced, and students are taught to turn at the wall. Prerequisites for this class – Completion of Level 3 or must exhibit the ability to swim 10 yards of both crawls, tread in deep water, and perform elementary backstroke.
Level 5 (2 weeks) 45min Provides instruction for the coordination and refinement of breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, front and back crawl and butterfly. Greater distances of these strokes are achieved. Alternate breathing and proper wall turns are emphasized. Prerequisites for this class – Completion of Level 4 or must exhibit the ability to swim 25 yards of both crawls, dive from a standing position, and perform 10 yards of elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Level 6, Fitness Swimmer (FS) (2 weeks) 45min This level trains swimmers to be proficient in every stroke and perform longer distances in each. Conditioning skills and fast turns are emphasized. Prerequisites for this class – Completion of Level 5 or must exhibit the ability to swim 50 yards of both crawls, 25 yards of elementary backstroke, 10 yards of breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly, and maintain position on back for 2 minutes in deep water (float or scull).
